Rotary Club of Wetherill Park

President's message

Like everyone else, the Rotary Club of Wetherill Park has had to do things differently with the Coronavirus pandemic lock down. Many events have had to be postponed or cancelled, but we have enjoyed continuing our meetings on line. It's been great to be able to have some of our long standing members who have been unable to make recent breakfast meetings join us online in the evenings. Breakfast face-to-face meetings will resume again soon.
It's been a pleasure to serve as president of the Rotary Club of Wetherill Park for the past two years and work with such a dedicated team of community minded people working together to make make a difference. It's remarkable gratifying to do something beyond yourself and may we encourage others to do that and join our club.
I look forward to working with our President-Elect, Brigette Pecora, and I hope she enjoys her time as much as I did. Please join us for our on-line virtual changeover on 4 July.

Carols a success
Our Rotary Club of Wetherill Park Christmas Carols is the major fundraising event for our Club!
Not only that but it's something our community look forward to and brings families together. Carols took place on 14 December at Horsley Park. Thank you everyone who helped and in whatever capacity that was. It's a big job for few and made much easier with many.
We have now raised more than a quarter of a million dollars over the past 10 years through Carols. A great effort. This year we raised approximately $25,000.
This year donations of support will go to: Anowah Community Living $5,500, Braeside Hospital Mental Health Ward $5,500, Horsley Park RFS $5,500, Rotary Club of Wetherill Park future projects account $5465.60, 1st Fairfield Scouts $1,000, St John Ambulance $350, Horsley Park Public School $300, Marion Primary School $300, Kemps Creek Public School $300, Our Ladies of Victories Catholic Church $300, St Narsai Assyrian Christian College $300 and Uniting Church Soup Kitchen $300.
Major sponsors included St Johns Park Bowling Club, Club Marconi, Mr D's Traditional Meats, Sanctuary Signs, Anric Developments, Oxytech Powdercoating, Watson Stanford Zipkis, Horsley Kids, Smithfield RSL, Business Taxation Concepts, Fairfield City Council, NADA Concrete, Bossley Park General Store and Deli, SMithfield RSL Sub-branch, NAB, Bing Lee and Global Renewables.
AGM results

Our club's Annual General Meeting was held on 12 November.
Congratulations to Brigette Pecora who was announced as the next president and many thanks to Shane for taking on the role with aplomb for two years.
Tony Calderan remains as treasurer and Roy Hilton as secretary. We are in good hands.
Other committee positions will be announced in the near future. If you are interested in being on the board, please let Brigette know.
Share the Path fundraiser success

The Rotary Club of Wetherill Park again had the opportunity to support the Westlink M7 team on their Share the Path day which spreads the word on cyclists and pedestrians sharing the path that runs alongside the M7 safely and respectfully. The day raised $1500 for our club.
NorthWestern Roads Stakeholder and Community Specialist Tracey Baker said: "It was a great vibe and we were really pleased with the event with about 200 guests coming along. We could tell from the line-up at (your) BBQ, everyone was hungry and enjoyed the sausage sizzle."
November's guest speaker

We were honoured to have Luke Boulos from Service NSW as our guest speaker at the November meeting.
Luke told us what Service NSW does in the way of rebates and support for the community. Just some of the things they do include providing a free service for people starting or growing their business.
Service NSW can help business people navigate their way through the required government licences, permits and OH&S with a free concierge service.
They also have offers such as replacing expensive, energy inefficient halogen lights with LED lights in businesses at a cost of as little as $33 for 30 lights.
There are also many energy effiiency, travel and medical rebates available to individuals.
For more information go to their website or contact Luke at the Service NSW centre in Wetherill Park.
Rotary attends Grace's Place opening

Rotary of Wetherill Park members were honoured to be at the opening of Grace's Place in Doonside alongside the Rotary Club of Blacktown on 7 September.

Grace’s Place is a centre providing a unique place of healing and restoration for children traumatised by homicide and named in honour of Grace Lynch, mother of Anita Cobby on land made available by Blacktown City Council and the Western Sydney Parklands Trust.
